Recently, an X user posted a “unique proposition” he received from a job applicant on the microblogging platform. “I’ll pay you $500 to hire me,” an applicant wrote to Wingify’s founder, Paras Chopra.
Despite saying he would not accept the money, Chopra shared a screenshot of the message he received from the applicant and expressed how delighted he was with the presentation.
In the communication, the candidate offered Rs 41,000 (about $500) in exchange for Chopra hiring them to work at Wingify. The candidate stated that Chopra would be free to terminate him and keep the money if he failed to show his mettle in the first week.
Paras Chopra received a message that said, “I have a unique proposition for you. I’ll pay you $500 to hire me. If I don’t prove myself to be one of the best within a week you can fire me & keep the money. Saying this so I’ll have skin in the game & not to waste your team’s time,” it continued, “Looking forward to your rejection,” the message ended.
This is how you get attention!

Chopra shared the screenshot and added, “This is how you get attention! (Obviously won’t take money but very impressed with the pitch)”.
The screenshot was published by Chopra only a day ago. It has had over 122,000 views since then. X users also had conflicting opinions about the post. Some people thought the job application set a bad precedent, while others said they appreciated it.
One user wrote, “It also speaks about the sad state of jobs currently – where a candidate has to mention $$$ to get attention”. Another user stated, “It’s a super bad pitch. Getting impressed with this pitch is also bad for hiring managers”.
One user jokingly said, “if you don’t try them out, you’ll end up losing more than $500 in the long run”. A fourth user said, “I see a lack of humility. It’s okay to be confident and it is okay to propose to work temporarily so that both sides can judge each other, but this leaks a feeling of superiority”.
