The names of six Indian armed forces personnel who lost their lives during Operation Sindoor have been officially inscribed on the National War Memorial’s Roll of Honour and engraved at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The inclusion marks the first formal acknowledgement by the government of military personnel who made the supreme sacrifice during the operation.
The six personnel recognised are Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Headquarters 10 Infantry Brigade, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Vir Chakra, of 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Field Regiment, Aviation Technician Mood Muralinaik of 851 Light Regiment, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of 237 Field Workshop Company and Sergeant Surendra Kumar, Vayu Medal, of 39 Wing.
The names have been engraved on Wall 3D under the 2025 section of the memorial, which commemorates members of the armed forces who died while serving the nation. The addition of the six names to the memorial provides the first formal public record of the armed forces personnel who died during the operation.

Operation Sindoor Followed the Pahalgam Terror Attack
Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025, after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians, most of them tourists, were killed.
During the military operation, Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes on nine terror-linked locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. According to official statements, the targets included infrastructure associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. Military operations concluded on May 10 after both India and Pakistan agreed to halt hostilities following discussions between their respective Directors General of Military Operations.

The Roll of Honour includes personnel from both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, reflecting the joint nature of Operation Sindoor.
Among those commemorated are Rifleman Sunil Kumar, who was awarded the Vir Chakra for gallantry, and Sergeant Surendra Kumar, a recipient of the Vayu Medal.
