Air India KidZania Ad Sparks Theories | On the morning of June 12, a front-page advertisement in the Mid-Day newspaper featuring a stylised Air India aircraft stirred unsettling emotions after a real Air India Dreamliner (Flight AI171) crashed just hours later in Ahmedabad, killing 241 passengers. The lone survivor is currently undergoing treatment.
The ad, promoting KidZania India’s Father’s Day weekend event, showcased a vibrant cartoon cityscape with a large Air India-branded aircraft emerging from a building facade. Though initially intended to highlight KidZania’s Aviation Academy for children, the visual now feels hauntingly similar to the real-life tragedy where the aircraft crashed into the Ahmedabad Medical College hostel, killing five students among others.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating Flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, lost altitude shortly after takeoff and crashed in the Meghaninagar area, prompting widespread mourning and investigations.
“Uncanny Coincidence,” Not Premonition, Say Air India and KidZania
Speculation about the timing of the ad — including references to a “Simpsons-style prediction” — was quickly addressed by KidZania India, which clarified that the visual was part of a long-standing collaboration with Air India, not linked to the crash.

In July 2024, Air India had posted a promotional tweet stating: “Dreams take off here! A new chapter in aviation excellence begins with the grand launch of the Air India Aviation Academy at @KidZaniaIndia in Delhi-NCR… Have you embarked on your aviation adventure yet?”
The Air India Aviation Academy, launched at KidZania locations in Noida and Mumbai, is an educational initiative that introduces children to aviation through role-play experiences like piloting simulators, managing airport operations, and understanding flight safety.
In light of the crash, KidZania added, “We remain sensitive to this tragedy and have paused any further promotion of the said visual. Our heartfelt condolences are with all affected.”
Though a tragic coincidence, the incident has cast a somber shadow over an otherwise playful advertisement, reminding many of how quickly real-life events can mirror even the most innocent imagery.
