A man claimed that after ordering paneer biryani from a Pune restaurant on Zomato, he found a piece of chicken in the dish, hurting his “religious sentiments.”

Pankaj Shukla posted an upset video and picture of the dish on X (previously Twitter), claiming to have found chicken bits in it. Meanwhile, Zomato responded to the post.

Pankaj mentioned in his post that he had his paneer biryani from PK Biryani House in Karve Nagar, Pune. Pankaj continued, saying that despite Zomato returning the money he had paid, he still made the decision to write about the incident on the internet.

In his post, Pankaj stated, “Ordered paneer biryani from PK Biryani House Karve Nagar Pune Maharashtra and I found a chicken piece in it (I am a vegetarian) I already got refund, but this is still a sin since I am a religious person, and it has hurt my religious sentiments.”

In response to Pankaj’s message, Zomato’s official customer service account asked him for more information so that an inquiry could be conducted.

Zomato mentioned, “Hi Pankaj, our highest priority is to ensure that we never compromise with anyone’s sentiments. Please share your order ID or registered phone number via DM so that we can get this checked.” Pankaj’s post has gone viral on X with over 17,000 views.

In March, Zomato caused a stir when its CEO, Deepinder Goyal, declared that the company would be introducing ‘Pure Veg Mode’ and ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ for consumers who follow a strictly vegetarian diet.

Goyal stressed that Zomato’s new ‘Pure Veg Mode’ “doesn’t serve or alienate any religious, or political preference”, however certain social media sections branded the feature as “casteist”.
