In the Surankote region of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, five Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were hurt when two of their convoy’s vehicles came under intense firing from terrorists, said sources.
One of the IAF personnel is allegedly critical among the five injured. All of them have been moved to a hospital for proper treatment. Countering terrorism actions are in progress and reinforcements have been dispatched to the region.
In a region where there were several terrors strikes on the Army last year, this is the first significant attack on the military forces this year. Images of the incident revealed that the car that was shot at had at least twelve bullet holes in its windscreen.
According to sources in the security forces, “An Indian Air Force vehicles’ convoy was attacked by terrorists in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The local Rashtriya Rifles unit has started cordon and search operations in the area. The vehicles have been secured inside the air base in the general area near Shahsitar. Military personnel have suffered injuries.”
The incident in Poonch district highlights the necessity of robust security measures and constant surveillance to counter terrorist activities and ensure stability in the region.
