Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao conducted a one-day review tour in Balod district on Saturday, focusing on the progress and challenges in urban administration, public works, and public health engineering departments. During a high-level meeting at the Balod Collectorate, he directed officials to ensure adequate drinking water supply during the ongoing summer season, leaving no citizen to struggle for basic water needs.
Deputy CM Sao instructed Executive Engineers from the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Chief Municipal Officers (CMOs) of all urban local bodies to prioritize water availability. He stressed the importance of proactive forecasting and timely resolution of potential water shortages to avoid any crisis. Member of Parliament Bhojraj Nag also participated in the comprehensive review meeting.
Strict Timelines for Construction Projects and City Planning
In addition to water supply issues, the Deputy Chief Minister reviewed the progress of approved and ongoing construction projects under both the Urban Administration and Public Works Departments. He emphasized the need for timely completion with strict adherence to quality standards.
Key areas discussed included:
– Ensuring efficient drinking water arrangements in urban bodies
– Timely execution of 15th Finance Commission projects
– Enhancing cleanliness in urban areas
– Upgrading the condition of public toilets
– Monitoring the construction progress of Atal Complexes

While reviewing the facilities in Balod Municipality, Deputy CM Sao instructed the Chief Municipal Officer to upgrade infrastructure to match the standards of a district headquarters, ensuring better amenities for city residents. He also took stock of the City Development Plan and advised that it be formulated in alignment with citizens’ expectations.
Focus on Grievance Redressal and Administrative Accountability
Deputy CM Sao reviewed the status of grievances received under the Good Governance Festival (Su-shasan Tihar) and directed that all applications be resolved within stipulated timeframes. He instructed municipal officials to personally conduct morning city inspections to monitor civic amenities.
Addressing the officials, he said, “There will be zero tolerance for negligence. Work must be executed seriously, actively, and within strict deadlines.” He also called upon officers to work with dedication, commitment, and honesty, ensuring a positive image of the government and fostering greater public trust.
Proactive Measures for Water Supply and Construction Quality
During the PHED review, Deputy CM Sao emphasized ensuring early arrangements for uninterrupted drinking water supply across villages and urban areas. He instructed the installation of alternative water supply systems wherever hand pumps were malfunctioning. He informed the meeting that 70 new tube wells have already been sanctioned for Balod district.

In the review of the Public Works Department (PWD), he reiterated the mandate to complete all construction projects within the scheduled period while ensuring 100% quality compliance.
The meeting was attended by Balod Collector Divya Umesh Mishra, Superintendent of Police Yogesh Kumar Patel, and senior officers from Public Works, Public Health Engineering, and Urban Administration Departments.
