Kesari 2 Plagiarism Allegation: The recently released film Kesari Chapter 2, starring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, has embroiled in a plagiarism controversy. YouTuber and poet Yahya Bootwala accused the film’s makers of copying lines from his original poem on Jallianwala Bagh without permission.
Yahya Bootwala Shares Video Proof Online
Bootwala had shared a video on Instagram juxtaposing his performance of the poem with a scene from the film where Ananya Panday delivers similar lines. In the post, Bootwala included a strongly worded note directed at the film’s dialogue writer, Sumit Saxena, accusing him of copying his work without giving credit.
Yahya Bootwala’s Strong Statement on Alleged Plagiarism
In his post, Yahya Bootwala had written: “So @nisoooooooooorg sent me a clip 4 days back from the movie Kesari 2 of dialogues he felt were copied from my poem, titled Jallianwala Bagh, published 5 years ago on @unerasepoetry YouTube channel. Here are the two clips and honestly, this is a clear copy-paste and it’s not like they’ve tried to hide it as well, matlab phusphusana jaisa shabd bhi uthaya hai (They have even lifted words like phusphasana). As writers, the worst thing you can do to a fellow writer is pick their material up, blatantly use it without giving credits and this is what I feel dialogue writer @sumit.saxena.35912 has done here.”

Bootwala had also urged his followers to tag key figures associated with Kesari Chapter 2, including Karan Johar, Karan Singh Tyagi, Akshay Kumar, and Ananya Panday, to bring more attention to the issue. He emphasized that using another writer’s material without credit is unacceptable and cheekily offered to write original dialogues for Karan Johar’s films.
Yahya Bootwala Later Deletes Instagram Post
However, in a surprising development, Yahya Bootwala later pulled down the Instagram post where he had made the allegations. No official statement has been issued by Bootwala explaining the reason for deleting the post.
Despite the controversy, Kesari Chapter 2 continues to perform well at the box office, collecting an estimated Rs 50.25 crore within eight days of its release.
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and produced by Dharma Productions, the film is a period courtroom drama based on the story of C. Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who challenged the British Raj after the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Akshay Kumar plays the role of Nair, R. Madhavan appears as British barrister R. Neville McKinley, and Ananya Panday portrays Dilreet Gill, a young lawyer.
