As India steps confidently toward its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047, Chhattisgarh has launched one of its most ambitious healthcare initiatives yet — the Nava Raipur Medicity. Envisioned as a world-class medical hub, the project is set to redefine healthcare delivery, education and research across Central India.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai described the initiative as the beginning of a historic transformation, stating, “Medicity in Nava Raipur is the beginning of a healthcare revolution in Central India. This integrated healthcare city will provide advanced, accessible, and affordable medical services to the people of Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states… Medicity will become a strong pillar of India’s developed future.”
Situated in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar, already known for its planned development and strong connectivity, Medicity is being developed under the leadership of the Chief Minister and the guidance of Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary. Both leaders view the project as a cornerstone of the state’s long-term social and economic growth.
Spread across 200 acres in Sectors 36–37, the upcoming healthcare city will include over 5,000 beds, a full-fledged medical university, a nursing college, and advanced research institutions. Specialised hospitals dedicated to cardiology, cancer sciences, neurology, orthopaedics, organ transplant and multispeciality treatment will anchor the ecosystem, supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities.

O.P. Choudhary emphasised the project’s role in economic expansion and job creation, noting, “Nava Raipur Medicity will become an engine of economic and social progress for Chhattisgarh, driving growth for decades… With AIIMS, Bombay Hospital Trust, a medical university and super-speciality institutions, Nava Raipur will emerge as a national health hub.”
Nava Raipur’s strategic central location makes it a natural healthcare gateway for neighbouring states including Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Over seven crore passengers use the region’s rail and air facilities every year, and upcoming international flight services are expected to significantly boost medical tourism.
The government’s vision includes a ‘walk-to-hospital’ eco-friendly model, ensuring seamless mobility through public transport. Residential complexes, hostels, hotels and dharamshalas will support patients and families, shaping what officials describe as a “human-centric medical zone”. Treatment affordability will also be strengthened under PMJAY and CGHS coverage.
Existing institutions in Nava Raipur already lay a strong foundation. Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital, a renowned paediatric cardiac centre operational since 2012, attracts patients from India and neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan and several African nations. The 170-bed Balco Cancer Hospital, functional since 2018, serves patients across a 600 km radius in Central India.
Officials say Medicity will generate thousands of jobs across healthcare, pharmaceuticals, academic, research, wellness and support services, while stimulating growth in housing, commercial spaces and service industries.
The state government sees the project as a defining step in building a “healthy, secure and developed future” for Chhattisgarh. With its integrated approach combining medical services, education, research, and tourism, the Nava Raipur Medicity is poised to become one of India’s largest and most advanced healthcare destinations.
