The Public Works Department (PWD) of the Chhattisgarh Government has granted administrative approval of ₹59 crore 55 lakh 27 thousand for the reconstruction of the Koni-Mopka Bypass in Bilaspur district. This approval has been sanctioned under the budget provisions of the financial year 2025–26.
Spanning approximately 14 kilometers, the condition of this road has remained extremely poor for several years. The route bears the brunt of heavy industrial and urban traffic, including movement from NTPC Sipat, sponge iron factories, coal washeries, and other industrial zones. Due to continuous usage, the road had deteriorated severely. Citizens and public representatives had long been demanding its reconstruction.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government prioritized this project in the budget. The Chief Minister emphasized that infrastructure development, particularly road strengthening and quality enhancement, is one of the government’s topmost priorities, and no negligence will be tolerated in works related to public convenience.
Following approval from Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Arun Sao, the department has issued a financial sanction circular to the Chief Engineer from the ministry level. Instructions have been given to ensure that the construction of the Koni-Mopka bypass is completed within the stipulated timeframe and adheres strictly to quality standards.

Arun Sao stressed that there must be no compromise on construction material quality, transparency in work processes, and effective monitoring systems. He directed officials to ensure continuous supervision of the entire project and stated that strict action will be taken in case of any construction errors, holding those responsible fully accountable.
The reconstruction of the Koni-Mopka bypass will not only ease industrial transportation but will also provide major relief to city residents from heavy traffic congestion. This decision reflects the government’s sensitivity and commitment to addressing a long-standing public demand.
The PWD will soon issue the work order, and the construction process will begin promptly. The state government’s intent is to ensure that the project is completed with high quality, full transparency, and within the designated timeline, so that citizens receive swift and lasting relief.
