Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a detailed conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, focusing on bilateral cooperation and global developments. In a post on social media, the Prime Minister said he had a “very good and detailed conversation” with President Putin and expressed appreciation for the update on the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
“Had a very good and detailed conversation with my friend President Putin. I thanked him for sharing the latest developments on Ukraine. We also reviewed the progress in our bilateral agenda, and reaffirmed our commitment to further deepen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. I look forward to hosting President Putin in India later this year,” PM Modi tweeted.
The call comes in the backdrop of escalating trade tensions following U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to impose 50 per cent tariffs on Indian goods.
India Reiterates Support for Peaceful Resolution in Ukraine
In an official statement, the Prime Minister reiterated India’s longstanding position advocating for a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict, which has now extended into its fourth year. India has consistently called on both Russia and Ukraine to return to the negotiating table to find a diplomatic solution.

The two leaders also reviewed ongoing progress in the bilateral agenda and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. PM Modi further stated he looked forward to welcoming President Putin to India later this year for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
