In an unexpected turn of events, acclaimed actor Paresh Rawal has returned ₹11 lakh to Akshay Kumar’s Cape of Good Films after walking away from Hera Pheri 3, a sequel fans have long anticipated. The amount was accompanied by a 15% annual interest, reflecting Rawal’s professional courtesy amidst a growing controversy.
Payment Clause Sparks Exit
An insider close to the matter revealed that the production had made a clause stating that Rawal would be paid ₹14.86 crore one month after the film’s release.
The timeline, which could span years depending on production and release schedules, reportedly became a major concern for the actor.
“Waiting for years to get paid didn’t make financial or professional sense to him,” the source stated. “He chose to return the money rather than stay bound to an uncertain timeline.”
Following Rawal’s exit, Akshay Kumar’s production house sent him a legal notice demanding ₹25 crore in damages for breach of contract and losses incurred.

Though Rawal had not begun shooting, the studio cited significant disruptions to scheduling and promotional planning. Despite the legal escalation, Cape of Good Films has expressed openness to resolving the matter amicably.
Shock and Sentiment on Set
Director Priyadarshan revealed that neither he nor the cast were informed in advance of Rawal’s departure. He recounted Akshay Kumar being visibly emotional, reportedly asking, “Why is Paresh Rawal doing this to us?”
With Rawal stepping away from his iconic role as Baburao, the future of Hera Pheri 3 remains unclear. The franchise, beloved by millions, may now have to undergo major rewrites or recasting, dimming excitement around its long-awaited return.
