The divorce petition involving Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and his estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, came up for hearing at the Chengalpattu Mahila Court on Monday morning. After considering the matter, the court adjourned the proceedings and scheduled the next hearing for August 7,2026.
The court hearing took place at around 10:30 am on June 15. The case relates to a divorce petition filed by Sangeetha earlier this year.
Allegations Raised in Petition
In her petition, Sangeetha alleged that Vijay had been involved in an extramarital relationship with a female actor. She stated that she became aware of the alleged relationship in 2021 and claimed that despite assurances from Vijay that the association would end, the relationship allegedly continued.
The divorce plea also alleged that facilities previously available to Sangeetha were withdrawn. Additionally, she claimed that financial restrictions were imposed on her and that her freedom of movement was curtailed.
Citing severe mental trauma, Sangeetha sought dissolution of the marriage under Sections 27(1)(a) and 27(1)(d) of the Special Marriage Act. The court has not made any findings on the allegations, and the matter remains under judicial consideration.
The petition further alleged that Vijay and the female actor attended events together and travelled on multiple occasions.
Sangeetha stated in her plea that she and the couple’s two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Sasha, faced humiliation as a result of the situation.
Vijay and Sangeetha were married in 1999. The divorce proceedings remain pending before the Chengalpattu court, with the next hearing scheduled for August 7.
