Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday extended a warm welcome to electricity workers from 21 states at the 18th Triennial Convention of the All India Electricity Workers Federation held in Raipur’s Gudhiyari locality. The event, coinciding with Hanuman Jayanti, offered a spirited message of unity and collaboration from the heart of Chhattisgarh.
Welcoming the visiting workers, Chief Minister Sai greeted them in what he proudly called “the maternal home of Lord Ram” — a reference to Chhattisgarh’s deep cultural and mythological connection with the Ramayana.
He highlighted the significance of this heritage, reminding the audience that Lord Ram spent nearly ten of his fourteen years of exile in the forests of Chhattisgarh, a fact that remains a point of pride for the state.
During his address, the Chief Minister recalled his earlier role as Minister of State for Labour in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first central government.

He underlined the pivotal decisions taken under Modi’s leadership to safeguard workers’ welfare, including the introduction of minimum pension schemes for laborers and the strategic use of unclaimed Provident Fund (PF) amounts to benefit workers across India.
Power Sector Growth and Future Investments
Speaking on the evolving landscape of the power sector, Sai emphasized the growing importance of electricity in modern life. He noted that Chhattisgarh currently enjoys a surplus in electricity generation but acknowledged the increasing demand due to industrial expansion and household needs.
He highlighted that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the state had recently been gifted two major power projects, with capacities of 1,350 megawatts and 850 megawatts respectively, to meet future demand.
The Chief Minister further revealed that the energy sector in Chhattisgarh has already attracted investment proposals worth an impressive ₹3.5 lakh crore.

He expressed optimism that the state’s ongoing initiatives, including the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, would revolutionize household electrification. Sai stated that the state government has made budgetary provisions to subsidize the scheme, ensuring that the path from “half-priced electricity to free electricity” for every household becomes a reality.
Sai also took a moment to pay tribute to Dattopant Thengadi, the founder of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, acknowledging his lifelong commitment to labor welfare and social justice.
The convention saw the presence of key union leaders, including All India Electricity Workers Federation Minister and In-Charge Radheshyam Jaiswal, Madhusudan Joshi, and Shobha Singhdev, alongside representatives from 21 states, marking it as a significant event for labor unity in India’s power sector.
