For those people who haven’t followed the last season, “Bridgerton” is based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling romantic book series. Season one featured the love story between Daphne and her husband, Simon, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page).
Season 2 followed an enemies-to-lovers theme as it tracked the romance between Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
Jess Brownell, showrunner and executive producer of the Shondaland series, told Variety in May 2023 that now it’s Colin and Penelope’s time. “Because we’ve been watching both of these actors on our screens since Season 1, we’ve already invested in them a little bit. We know who they are as people,” she said.
Brownell added, “I feel like, especially in the last season, there are these moments of tension between them where it’s like, Colin walks up to the line of almost realizing that Penelope has feelings for him but doesn’t quite get there. Instead of treading water on that dynamic, we wanted to push it into their season. It really felt like the perfect moment to tee it up.”
In 2020, Bridgerton debuted on Netflix to much fanfare. The hit period piece, based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels, made stars of Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page and introduced viewers to a world dominated by society galas, family drama, and delicious gossip.
The Shonda Rhimes-produced show was such a success that it was renewed for a second season just a month after season one dropped. And then later on, it was picked up again for seasons three and four
On December 12, 2023, Netflix revealed the release date of Bridgerton season 3, surprising fans with a bombshell: the third season will be split into two parts. The season will be split into two 4-part episodes: Part 1 will drop on May 16, 2024 and part 2 will drop on June 13, 2024.
