The sudden death of actor Shefali Jariwala remains unexplained as forensic experts at Cooper Hospital have reserved their opinion pending further analysis. A panel of five doctors who conducted the autopsy have sent tissue samples for histopathological examination and preserved viscera for chemical analysis to the Kalina Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
According to police sources, histopathology is initiated when no clear cause of death is visible during the autopsy, and is used to detect microscopic signs of disease or internal trauma. Additionally, chemical analysis will determine whether toxins, drugs, or other substances contributed to her demise.
Fasting, Self-Medication, and Stale Food Under Scrutiny
CCTV footage from Shefali’s home has shed light on her final hours. She was reportedly fasting for a puja on the day of her death, breaking her fast after 8:30 pm with reheated stale fried rice that had been stored overnight in the refrigerator. After feeling uneasy and acidic, she consumed Pantoprazole (40 mg) and Domperidone (30 mg) to relieve her discomfort.
Earlier in the day, Jariwala also received an anti-ageing injection at her residence, administered by a medical professional. According to police investigations, several unprescribed medications and injectable vials were recovered from the dustbin at her home, including Glutathione and Vitamin C.

By 10:15 pm, her condition reportedly worsened. She collapsed around 10:30 pm, prompting house staff to alert her husband, Parag Tyagi, who had stepped out for a walk. Despite a quick rush to Bellevue Hospital in Andheri West, Shefali was declared dead on arrival. The body was later transferred to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem.
Police officers involved in the investigation suspect a sudden drop in blood pressure leading to cardiac arrest, possibly triggered by fasting, self-medication, or food poisoning. However, no foul play has been identified, and family members have raised no allegations.
A senior officer stated, “We are taking all possible measures as per procedure to ascertain the cause of death.”
