Mumbai Police have reportedly registered a case of murder against a 16-year-old boy after he allegedly pushed a 15-year-old girl to her death from a building terrace in Bhandup (West), Mumbai. According to police officers, the accused initially attempted to pass off the crime as a suicide.
The incident occurred on June 24 when the girl, a student of an international school residing in Mulund, went to meet the boy at a residential society. She reportedly confided in him about academic stress. The two were atop a water tank on the terrace of the society’s D-wing when their conversation allegedly turned into a heated argument, specifically regarding dating matters.
Mumbai Police said that during the argument, the boy suddenly pushed the girl, causing her to fall from the building. After the fall, the boy allegedly threw her mobile phone from the terrace to the opposite side of the complex near the E-wing in a further attempt to mislead investigators.
CCTV Footage Unravels the Truth
The girl’s body was discovered in the building’s duct area by a security guard, who immediately alerted the authorities. During initial questioning, the boy claimed the girl had taken her own life by jumping from a window between the 30th and 31st floors due to stress related to her studies.

However, investigators grew suspicious and closely examined the building’s CCTV footage. Discrepancies in the boy’s narrative led Mumbai Police to detain him for further questioning. Eventually, the minor confessed to pushing the girl off the terrace, police officers reportedly confirmed.
The Bhandup Police registered a case against the accused late Monday night. He has since been remanded to a juvenile detention centre in Dongri.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns over teen mental health, peer relationships, and safety within residential complexes.
