Bengaluru – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a series of major transport projects in Bengaluru, including the flagging off of three Vande Bharat Express trains, the inauguration of the 19-km Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro, and the laying of the foundation stone for the city’s Metro Phase-3.
Major Transport Boost for Bengaluru with New Trains and Metro Expansion
Kicking off his visit at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station, PM Modi flagged off the KSR Bengaluru–Belagavi service, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–Amritsar service, and the Nagpur (Ajni)–Pune service. With these additions, the total number of Vande Bharat trains across India has risen to 150. Karnataka now operates 11 Vande Bharat trains, while Maharashtra, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir also gain from enhanced high-speed rail connectivity.
Yellow Line Metro Inaugurated, Phase-3 Work to Begin
Following the train flag-offs, PM Modi inaugurated the 19-kilometre Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro, connecting RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra through 16 stations. Built under Phase-2 at a cost of around ₹7,160 crore, the line will link key residential, commercial, and industrial hubs, taking the operational metro network in Bengaluru to over 96 kilometres and benefiting lakhs of commuters daily. The Prime Minister also took a metro ride from RV Road to Electronic City, a major IT hub.

He also laid the foundation stone for Bengaluru Metro Phase-3, a Rs15,610 crore project that will add over 44 kilometres of elevated tracks and 31 new stations. Once complete, it is expected to further decongest the city’s roads and strengthen its public transport infrastructure.

Capping his day’s events, PM Modi is scheduled to address a public gathering, where he is expected to reiterate the government’s commitment to building world-class transport systems and improving the ease of living for Bengaluru’s residents.
