As the NDA swept the Bihar Assembly elections with a strong two-thirds majority, Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately raised the pitch for the 2026 West Bengal elections. Speaking to jubilant BJP workers at the party headquarters in Delhi on Friday evening, he said that after Bihar, the BJP would now target and remove the “jungle raj” in Bengal.
According to the Election Commission’s final tally, the NDA comfortably crossed the 200-seat mark, triggering massive celebrations across party units.

Addressing thousands of supporters, PM Modi said the electoral message of Bihar would now flow eastward.
“Ganga flows through Bihar and reaches Bengal. Bihar has also paved the way for the BJP’s victory in Bengal. Now, together with you, the BJP will uproot jungle raj from West Bengal as well,” he said to loud cheers from party workers.
Key Issues Likely to Dominate the 2026 Bengal Battle
West Bengal heads to the polls in 2026, where the BJP and Trinamool Congress are expected to clash over women’s safety, law and order, alleged infiltration from Bangladesh, and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.

The SIR has emerged as a major flashpoint. The BJP argues it is essential to remove illegal voters, while the Trinamool has accused the process of targeting specific communities.
The Bihar SIR 1.0 exercise resulted in the removal of around 65 lakh fake voters, a number the Opposition strongly disputed. The Mahagathbandhan argued the process unfairly targeted its traditional vote base.
With Bengal’s SIR underway, both the BJP and Trinamool see the outcome as politically crucial ahead of the high-stakes 2026 contest.

During his speech, PM Modi also took aim at the Congress, accusing it of bringing negativity into alliances.

“Even the Congress allies are beginning to understand that the Congress is drowning everyone in its negative politics. The ‘naamdar’ of the Congress is practising to drown himself and others in the Bihar elections by taking a dip in the pond,” he said, urging regional parties to reconsider partnering with Congress in future polls.
