The Supreme Court on Friday came down heavily on political parties over their lack of effort in addressing the issue of missing voters in Bihar.
Expressing sharp concern, the bench questioned why parties had failed to act despite appointing booth-level agents (BLAs).
“We are only surprised by the inaction of political parties. After appointing BLAs (booth-level agents), what are they doing? Why is there a distance between people and local political persons? Political parties must assist voters,” the court remarked.
Court Questions Gap Between Voters and Political Parties
The observations came as the top court heard concerns related to the disenfranchisement of voters in Bihar.
The justices stressed that it was the responsibility of political organisations to bridge the gap between citizens and the electoral system, especially through their appointed representatives at the booth level.

The bench underlined that voters’ rights must be safeguarded and that parties cannot remain passive on such a critical issue. The pointed remarks are expected to intensify the debate around electoral accountability in the state.
