Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a video message on Union Budget 2026, said the budget is historic and reflects the empowered spirit of the nation’s women.
He highlighted that Union Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman has created history by presenting the Union Budget for the ninth consecutive time, a record for a woman finance minister.

“This budget is a highway of immense opportunities, one that fulfills the dreams of the present and strengthens the foundation of India’s bright future,” the Prime Minister said.
Foundation for a Developed India by 2047
Modi said the budget forms the basis for India’s high flight towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
He noted that the reform express on which India is riding will gain new energy and momentum through this budget, adding that the reforms provide aspiring, courageous and talented youth with an open sky to soar.

The Prime Minister remarked that the budget reflects trust-based governance and a human-centric economic framework.
Focus on Fiscal Discipline and Growth
Calling it a unique budget, Modi said it focuses on reducing fiscal deficit and controlling inflation, while simultaneously ensuring high capital expenditure and high growth.
According to him, this balanced approach strengthens India’s economic foundations while maintaining momentum.
The Prime Minister said the budget strengthens India’s global role anew, noting that the country’s 140 crore citizens are not satisfied with being the world’s fastest-growing economy.
He said India is determined to become the world’s third largest economy, calling it a collective resolve of millions of Indians.

Modi added that India’s position as a trusted democratic partner and trusted quality supplier is continuously expanding. He said recent major trade deals are aimed at benefiting youth and small and medium enterprises, with significant steps taken in the budget to advance this direction.
Push for Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat
Emphasising the budget’s ambitious roadmap, the Prime Minister said it accelerates Make in India and the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign.
He highlighted unprecedented support for sunrise sectors including the BioPharma Shakti Mission, Semiconductor Mission 2.0, Electronic Component Manufacturing Scheme, creation of a Rare Earth Corridor, strengthening of the critical minerals sector, new schemes in the textile sector, promotion of high-tech tool manufacturing, and preparation of champion MSMEs.
He said the support to MSMEs, including small and cottage industries, will help them grow from local to global.
Infrastructure and City-Led Growth
Modi said the budget takes major steps to strengthen infrastructure, including a dedicated freight corridor, expansion of waterways, a high-speed rail corridor, and a special focus on tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

He also highlighted the promotion of municipal bonds to strengthen the economic foundations of cities, saying these measures will accelerate the journey towards a developed India.
Youth Power Budget and Employment Push
Calling citizens the greatest capital of any nation, the Prime Minister said the government has made unprecedented investments to enhance their capabilities.
Reiterating the Finance Minister’s description of Budget 2026 as a youth power budget, Modi said the provisions will prepare leaders, innovators and creators across sectors.
He cited initiatives such as medical hubs, allied health professionals, promotion of the orange economy, encouragement of gaming, tourism and the Khelo India Mission, and said a major tax concession has been announced to make India a global data centre hub.
Congratulating the youth, he said the budget will significantly boost employment generation.
Women, Agriculture and Balanced Development
Modi said more than 10 crore women are associated with self-help groups, and the budget prioritises building a modern ecosystem for women-led and women-run SHGs.
He added that the campaign to build new hostels for girl students in every district will make education more accessible.

Highlighting agriculture, dairy and fisheries, the Prime Minister said the budget includes important measures for farmers producing coconut, cashew, cocoa and sandalwood.
He said the Bharat Vistaar AI tool will help farmers with information in their own language, while promoting entrepreneurship in fisheries and animal husbandry will create employment and self-employment in villages.
Concluding, Modi described the budget as ambitious and aspirational, congratulating Smt Nirmala Sitharaman and her team for presenting a futuristic and sensitive budget dedicated to the welfare of villages, the poor and farmers.
