Passenger assaulted in train | A disturbing video from the Hemkunt Express has gone viral, showing a passenger being assaulted in his 3AC coach after he lodged a complaint about being overcharged for a bottle of water. The incident occurred on May 7, shortly after the passenger used the RailMadad app to file the grievance.
The passenger, who runs a YouTube channel named ‘Mr Vishal’, posted the full video on his channel, which later gained traction when a clip was shared by The Skin Doctor on social media platform X. The footage shows several men — allegedly pantry staff — entering the coach and confronting Vishal as he rests on his upper berth.“I had complained because you were overcharging for water,” the passenger is heard saying in the clip.

Complaint Triggered by Overpricing
The video shows Vishal purchasing a bottle labeled Wonder Aqua for ₹20, which he claimed is not an approved brand. When he questioned the pricing and product quality, the vendor replied, “Yahi mila, sir (I just have this).”
Vishal then submitted a formal complaint via the RailMadad app, and soon after, he received a call from railway authorities seeking details. However, things took a turn when he was allegedly attacked by the pantry staff just hours later.“They are selling Wonder Aqua which is not approved. This is not right,” he said in the video.

Railways Respond with Penalty and FIR
As the video sparked widespread public backlash, Railway Seva, the official support handle of Indian Railways, responded promptly on X.“The case is being taken with utmost seriousness. A penalty of ₹5 lakh has been imposed on the caterer. An FIR has been lodged by GRP, Kathua. The matter remains under strict watch. Stern action will follow based on the investigation outcome,” read their statement.
The incident has reignited concerns about passenger safety, vendor accountability, and the handling of legitimate grievances onboard Indian trains.
