In a significant step toward transforming administrative efficiency, the Jharkhand government is accelerating its shift to a fully digital governance model. The state’s IT Department has initiated work on a detailed action plan to implement the e-Office system, aimed at ensuring all government operations are conducted digitally.
On Monday, Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari held an intensive review meeting with the heads of various state departments to push forward the plan’s successful execution. She directed the IT Department to make the e-Office system 100 pecent error-free and complete its rollout across departments by January 2026.
Cybersecurity and Paperless Operations Are Key Focus Areas
In her directives, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of cybersecurity, noting that sensitive government files must be safeguarded from potential cyber fraud. She instructed RailTel, NIC, and JAP-IT technical experts to develop a strict timeline for implementation and ensure ease of use to prevent delays in decision-making.
Tiwari further stated that officials should be able to work remotely through the e-Office platform. She ordered that all physical files must first be scanned and uploaded as PDFs, avoiding any reliance on paper documents for digital decisions.

Currently, four departments—Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Rajbhasha, Finance, IT & e-Governance, and Higher Education—have already begun using the e-Office system. Employees in these departments are undergoing training, while other departments are also taking steps to adopt the digital system. Email IDs for officers have already been created in many cases to support the platform.
The Chief Secretary directed remaining departments to initiate their transition to e-Office immediately.
Benefits of the e-Office System
Once fully implemented, the e-Office system will provide seamless access to files at the click of a button, eliminating the need for physical storage and maintenance. Files will be centralized, secure, and protected from damage due to fire, floods, pests, or decay.
The system will also reduce redundant photocopying, speed up decision-making, increase transparency, and curb corruption. Importantly, it will end the delays caused by red-tapism and significantly improve departmental efficiency. Being a paperless system, it will also contribute to environmental sustainability.
