Tesla has officially entered the Indian market, unveiling its first showroom —branded as a Tesla Experience Centre — in Mumbai’s prestigious Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Spanning roughly 4,000 square feet, the flagship store marks the electric‑vehicle pioneer’s long‑anticipated physical presence in the country. Exclusive images show a fully branded storefront with a white Tesla vehicle positioned inside.
The Mumbai showroom features the refreshed Model Y, Tesla’s all‑electric SUV, displayed in a dark‑grey finish with black alloy wheels. Two variants are expected for India—Long Range RWD and Long Range AWD—each offering:
- Dual‑tone black‑and‑white minimalist cabin
- 4‑inch central touchscreen
- Wireless charging, USB‑C ports, voice commands, internet connectivity
- App‑based vehicle access for remote control and monitoring
Social‑media snippets captured the Model Y arriving on a flatbed truck as last‑minute preparations were made ahead of the public opening.
Pricing Hurdles and Manufacturing Questions
Industry estimates suggest the Model Y could start above ₹60 lakh, largely due to India’s steep 70–100 percent import duties on fully built cars. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly called those tariffs “too high,” pressing for duty reductions to widen consumer access. The Indian government, however, continues to encourage Tesla to commit to local manufacturing rather than rely on imports. To date, the company has not announced any factory or assembly plans in India.

Tesla is expected to open additional experience centres in major metros—including New Delhi—over the coming months as it gauges demand and navigates regulatory and cost challenges. The Mumbai launch is the first step in what could become a broader Indian strategy for the California‑based EV maker.
