In a landmark move aimed at securing the financial and social welfare of state employees, the Government of Jharkhand, in the presence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI) for an enhanced salary package scheme.
The signing ceremony took place on Thursday, formalizing benefits that will extend beyond conventional banking services for thousands of government employees.
The MoU was signed by Rajeshwari B., Special Secretary, Finance Department, Government of Jharkhand, and Devesh Mittal, Deputy General Manager of SBI. The signing ceremony was also attended by Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore, Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Avinash Kumar, Principal Secretary Vandana Dadel, SBI’s Chief General Manager for Jharkhand-Bihar K.B. Bangaraju, and General Manager Prabhash Bose.
₹1 Crore Accident Insurance, Health and Life Cover Included
Under the new agreement, all Jharkhand state employees whose salary accounts are with SBI will now enjoy a series of financial protections and services. The most noteworthy benefit is a ₹1 crore accident insurance cover offered at no extra cost. Employees will also receive health insurance, life insurance, and additional premium banking services as part of the package.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said this MoU marks the beginning of a new chapter for the welfare, safety, and dignity of government employees.

“The state government is committed to safeguarding the economic security of every government worker. Today’s agreement ensures that their families will receive ₹1 crore in the event of a fatal accident during service,” he emphasized.

CM Soren underlined the government’s long-term vision for employee welfare. “In today’s world, everyone worries about the safety and future of their family. Our administration is working with sensitivity and foresight to ensure the financial well-being of our government employees,” he said.
He further applauded SBI’s collaboration, stating, “Even institutions like SBI are stepping forward to support the workforce of a developing state like Jharkhand, showing the strength of collective efforts toward employee welfare.”

The Chief Minister also stressed the critical role government employees play in the state’s growth. “From policymaking to implementing plans on the ground, state employees are the driving force behind Jharkhand’s progress.
