Finance Commission Jharkhand visit | In preparation for the upcoming visit of the 16th Finance Commission, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a high-level review meeting on Wednesday at his Kanke Road residential office in Ranchi. The meeting was attended by State Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore and other senior officials to discuss the state’s comprehensive plans and presentations for the four-day visit by the Commission, led by its Chairman Dr. Arvind Panagariya.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister that the 11-member Finance Commission team will arrive in Jharkhand on May 28, 2025, and a crucial high-level meeting is scheduled for May 30 in Ranchi.
This meeting will include all state ministers and senior bureaucrats, where the Commission will assess Jharkhand’s fiscal position, grant utilization, and the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes.
State to Present Economic Roadmap and Sectoral Achievements
The state government has prepared an extensive memorandum that will be submitted to the Commission, highlighting Jharkhand’s social and economic development efforts, including achievements in irrigation, education quality, healthcare access, infrastructure growth, and tourism development.
These key sectors will be showcased through sector-wise PowerPoint presentations, focusing on state priorities and impact metrics.
Chief Minister Soren instructed officials to present a robust and inclusive roadmap for Jharkhand’s development. He emphasized that “the state is consistently working to accelerate growth in both urban and rural areas, and the Finance Commission’s visit is an opportunity to demonstrate that progress.”

He further directed that special attention be given to critical sectors requiring focused investments, and that the state’s recommendations should ensure all-round development for every section of society, reinforcing inclusivity and sustainability.
Packed Itinerary for the Finance Commission Delegation
On May 29, the Finance Commission team will visit Deoghar, where they will perform prayers at the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple and later hold a meeting with local body representatives from both urban and rural segments at the divisional level.
On May 30, ahead of the primary state-level review, the team will also meet representatives from local bodies, trade and industry groups, and the Chamber of Commerce. Later in the day, the delegation will hold a comprehensive session with all state ministers and department heads to review the state’s economic and social metrics.
Importantly, the Finance Commission will also interact with representatives of Jharkhand’s major political parties, ensuring a holistic understanding of the state’s needs and challenges across the political spectrum.
The visit will conclude on May 31, when the delegation will depart from Ranchi to Delhi.
