A serious security lapse was reported at the new Parliament building on Friday morning when a man managed to scale the wall and enter the premises. The incident took place around 6:30 am, raising fresh concerns over Parliament’s security preparedness.
Officials confirmed that the intruder climbed a tree and jumped over the wall from the Rail Bhavan side before reaching the Garuda gate of the new Parliament House. He was swiftly caught by security personnel and is currently being interrogated.
Security Breach Comes Amid Past Incidents
The breach comes just a day after the monsoon session of Parliament concluded, which had been marred by repeated disruptions. This is not the first time security has been compromised at the country’s highest legislative complex.
Last year, a similar incident occurred when a man in his 20s scaled the Parliament wall and jumped into the Annexe building premises. A video later surfaced showing the man in shorts and a T-shirt being detained by CISF personnel. Nothing incriminating was found on him during frisking.
In December 2023, on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, a high-profile breach saw two men jump into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour. They released yellow gas canisters and shouted slogans before being overpowered by MPs.

Simultaneously, two others sprayed coloured gas outside the premises. Six people were eventually arrested in connection with that incident, including Mahesh Kumawat and Lalit Jha.
Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court also sought a response from the Delhi Police regarding Jha’s bail plea in the 2023 Parliament security breach case.
Friday’s intrusion has once again raised urgent questions about security arrangements at one of India’s most important and heavily guarded buildings.
