BJP chief Nitin Nabin formally accepted the resignation on Friday, confirming Annamalai’s exit from the party’s primary membership.
The move marks a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, where Annamalai emerged as one of the BJP’s most prominent faces over the past few years.
According to party sources, senior BJP leaders made repeated efforts to persuade Annamalai to reconsider his decision.
Despite these attempts, Annamalai chose to step down, and the resignation was subsequently approved by the party leadership.

Rise of Annamalai in Tamil Nadu Politics
Kuppusamy Annamalai, a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, entered politics by joining the BJP in 2020. Popularly referred to as “Singham” by his supporters, he quickly gained visibility in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
