Russian President Vladimir Putin has described US President-elect Donald Trump as an “experienced and intelligent politician” while expressing concerns about his safety following multiple assassination attempts. Speaking to reporters in Kazakhstan after a summit, Putin addressed what he termed “uncivilized methods” used against Trump during the US election campaign, including alleged attempts on his life.
Trump was reportedly injured in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in July. In a separate incident in September, a man was charged with attempted assassination after allegedly positioning himself with a rifle at one of Trump’s Florida golf courses.
“By the way, in my opinion, he is not safe now,” Putin said, referencing these incidents. “Unfortunately, in the history of the United States, various incidents have happened. I think he [Trump] is intelligent, and I hope he’s cautious and understands this.”
Criticism of US Election Campaign Tactics
Putin expressed shock at the vitriol and personal attacks faced by Trump and his family during the election campaign, calling such actions “revolting.” He contrasted these tactics with what he claimed was higher ethical conduct in Russia, stating, “Not even bandits would resort to such methods” in his country.

Putin also touched on the Biden administration’s policies, suggesting that its decision to escalate the conflict in Ukraine by allowing Kyiv to strike Russian territory with Western missiles might have implications for Trump.
He speculated that the move could either provide Trump with a challenge to resolve or create obstacles for him in dealing with Russia. Despite this, Putin expressed confidence in Trump’s ability to navigate the situation, stating, “I think he will find the solution.”
Putin reiterated Moscow’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the US, emphasizing the need for strategic communication regardless of political developments.
