In a shocking turn of events, former President Donald Trump was injured during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, earlier today. The attack unfolded as Trump began his speech, with a gunman opening fire. Authorities reported that the assailant and a bystander were killed, while two others sustained critical injuries.

Trump, who is 78 years old and currently campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination, was struck in the ear. His team reassured the public that he was “fine,” despite visible blood on his cheek and mouth following the incident. In a statement addressing the shooting, Trump remarked that he was shot with a bullet that “pierced the upper part of my right ear.”

In response to the violence, President Joe Biden expressed his horror, labeling the act as “sick” and asserting that such aggression has no place in American society. Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also condemned the attack, calling it a clear instance of political violence. His spokesperson conveyed Guterres’s best wishes for Trump’s swift recovery.

Hours after the attack, Trump was seen in a video walking off a plane, appearing in a navy suit and white shirt, though his injured ear was not visible. This footage was shared by his deputy communications director on social media.

The FBI is currently investigating the shooting but has not yet released the identity of the shooter. Special Agent Kevin Rojek confirmed that the incident is being treated as an assassination attempt, emphasizing the importance of gathering more information. He noted the agency is grateful there were not more casualties, highlighting that all three victims were adult males.
