US President Donald Trump appears to be exploring a diplomatic resolution with Iran even as the Middle East conflict intensifies.
According to senior Israeli officials cited by Reuters and then reported by others, Washington is attempting to revive talks aimed at de-escalating tensions. However, those officials expressed scepticism, suggesting Tehran is unlikely to accept key US demands.

The latest push comes after earlier negotiations reportedly broke down on February 28, around the same time a joint US-Israeli military campaign against Iran began.
Since then, the conflict has escalated sharply, with heavy casualties reported and tensions rising across the region.
At the core of the dispute are Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its expanding ballistic missile programme—longstanding points of contention between the two sides.
Trump Claims ‘Productive’ Conversations
Despite the breakdown, Trump has projected optimism about a potential breakthrough.
“Very good and productive conversations… aimed at a complete resolution,” he said in a recent social media post.
However, Iranian officials quickly dismissed the claim, stating that no such talks were currently taking place.

The contradiction highlights the deep mistrust that continues to define US-Iran relations.
US Pauses Strikes to Open Diplomatic Window
In a significant move, Trump announced a temporary halt to planned strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure.
He said he had instructed the US Department of War to delay military action for five days, describing the discussions as “constructive”.
The pause, however, appears conditional.
“The delay depends on progress,” Trump indicated, signalling that military options remain on the table.
Meanwhile, Iran has framed the decision differently, suggesting it reflects US pressure following strong warnings from Tehran.
Israel Backs Strategy but Remains Cautious
Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged the possibility of leveraging recent military gains to secure a diplomatic outcome.
He indicated that Washington sees an opportunity to translate battlefield momentum into a negotiated agreement.
However, Israel remains cautious about any deal that could compromise its security interests.
Key Sticking Points Remain Unresolved
Any potential agreement is expected to hinge on critical issues.
These include limits on Iran’s nuclear programme, restrictions on its missile capabilities, and broader regional security concerns.
Analysts say bridging these gaps will be challenging, given the entrenched positions on both sides.
With conflicting narratives and no confirmed negotiations, the future of US-Iran diplomacy remains unclear.
While Trump’s outreach suggests a willingness to de-escalate, scepticism from both Iran and Israel underscores the complexity of the situation.
For now, the region remains on edge as diplomacy and military strategy continue to unfold in parallel.
