The ongoing legal tussle between actress Nayanthara and actor Dhanush has taken another dramatic turn. Amid the controversy over alleged copyright infringement in her Netflix documentary, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale, the actress shared a cryptic Instagram story about “karma.”
The post read, “Karma Says!!! When you destroy someone’s life with lies, take it as a loan, it will come back to you with interest.”
Dhanush recently filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, over the alleged unauthorized use of clips from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in their Netflix documentary. The case is now under review by the Madras High Court, where Justice Abdul Quiddhose has asked the couple to clarify the allegations.
Dhanush’s legal team has also issued a notice demanding the removal of the disputed content within 24 hours, failing which he may pursue damages of Rs 10 crore against Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, and Netflix India.
Nayanthara’s Response
In an open letter, Nayanthara claimed that the footage in question consisted of behind-the-scenes (BTS) visuals recorded on personal devices and was not owned by Dhanush’s production company, Wunderbar Films. She explained that efforts to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Dhanush spanned two years but did not succeed.

The actress expressed disbelief at the lawsuit, highlighting that the disputed footage amounted to merely three seconds of BTS visuals, already publicly available on social media. Nayanthara questioned Dhanush’s motives, writing, “This is an all-time low from you and speaks so much about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray to be on stage in audio launches.”
Dhanush’s legal team has countered these claims, stating that the rights to all content, including BTS footage, belong to Wunderbar Films, which financed the movie. The lawyer emphasized that the couple must provide evidence for their assertions and remove the content immediately to avoid further legal action.
