Mufasa: The Lion King, which is a prequel to the beloved The Lion King series, premiered in India, earning Rs 8.8 crore on its first day in all languages. Although this opening was noteworthy, it did not reach the double-digit figure that its earlier counterpart, The Lion King (2019), had managed — over Rs 11 crore on its debut day.

Mufasa: The Lion King Vs Pushpa 2: The Rule

Mufasa had to compete with Pushpa 2: The Rule, which was a big hit in the theaters and might have affected its box office numbers. Still, the movie found a dedicated audience, showing that the Lion King universe remains popular in India.

The second day brought good news for Mufasa box office collection as it made Rs 12.71 crore, making its total for the first two days Rs 21.51 crore. This increase hints at strong word-of-mouth and growing interest from viewers.

The film seems to have found a special place with city audiences, as the 3D showings in both English and Hindi have helped boost its earnings. In places like Bengaluru and Hyderabad, over 40 percent of seats were filled for 3D screenings, showing a great response.

Mufasa: The Lion King has made Rs 3.3 million from Thursday previews in North America and is expected to earn between Rs 37 million and Rs 42 million over its opening weekend. While these numbers are decent, they don’t quite match what earlier films in the franchise have achieved.

Directed by Barry Jenkins, Mufasa: The Lion King tells the story of Mufasa’s beginnings, giving more depth to this cherished Disney character. The film’s success will depend on whether audiences stay interested and share good reviews in the next few days, especially since it faces stiff competition from other big releases this holiday season. How well it does will show if it can honor the legacy of the previous film.
