A minor spark and smoke were reported from the engine of an international cargo flight arriving from Kuala Lumpur at Chennai Airport on Tuesday, prompting initial concerns of a major fire. However, officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have confirmed that the incident was minor, with no injuries or damage to the aircraft.
The inbound flight, arriving from the Malaysian city of Kuala Lumpur, experienced the spark during landing. Pilots immediately alerted Chennai airport authorities, who monitored the situation closely.
Despite the engine smoke observed by onlookers, the pilots conducted a safe landing without the need for an emergency procedure.
AAI Dismisses Reports of Major Fire
Following media reports claiming a “major fire” on board, the AAI issued a clarification stating the incident had been exaggerated.
In an official statement, the office of the Chennai Airport Director said, “It is hereby stated that there was no major fire in the engine during landing.

There was a minor spark and some smoke, possibly due to oil, dirt, or residue. The aircraft did not suffer any damage. This incident has been blown out of proportion.”
Authorities reiterated that all safety protocols were in place, and the cargo flight continued to operate without any subsequent issues.
