Tamil actor and politician Vijay has begun reaching out personally to the families of those who lost their lives in the Karur stampede during his rally last month. According to sources from the Tamil superstar’s team, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader has so far spoken to four to five affected families, including women and children, through video calls.
The stampede, which took place during Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, on September 27, claimed 41 lives and left over 100 injured, marking one of the worst tragedies in the state’s recent political history.
Sources said that during the video calls, Vijay expressed deep sympathy and assured the families of his continued support. Each call reportedly lasted around 20 minutes, during which the TVK chief conveyed his condolences and promised to meet them in person soon.
“I am with you, I will stand by you,” Vijay told the grieving families, according to sources.
The tragedy has triggered political ripples across Tamil Nadu ahead of next year’s elections. However, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have refrained from directly attacking Vijay over the incident.
While several TVK functionaries have been arrested in connection with the stampede, Vijay himself has not been named in any FIR, officials confirmed.
