In a post on X, the IMD said the deep depression moved nearly westwards over the past six hours at a speed of 10 kmph, gaining strength to form Cyclone Senyar.
The storm was centred over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining northeast Indonesia at 0530 hours IST on November 26, 2025.
The Strait of Malacca connects the Andaman Sea to the South China Sea, making it a crucial maritime zone that often influences regional weather patterns.
According to the IMD’s bulletin, the storm is likely to maintain its intensity for the next 24 hours and then move west-southwestwards, before recurving eastwards over the subsequent 48 hours.
Gusty winds between 70 kmph and 90 kmph are expected throughout Wednesday.
Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Andaman & Nicobar Islands
The IMD said light to moderate rainfall is expected in most places across the Nicobar Islands, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated regions between November 26 and 27.
Rainfall intensity is expected to decrease gradually from November 28 to November 29.

Rainfall is likely across parts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, the agency said.
Heavy Rainfall in Tamil Nadu; More Predicted
Several districts in Tamil Nadu witnessed intense rainfall on Monday, leading to waterlogging in parts of coastal Tuticorin district.
The IMD has warned of heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday, with the system likely to intensify further.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are very likely across Tamil Nadu between November 26 and 29, and in Kerala and Mahe between November 26 and 27.
