Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai is set to make her sitcom debut with a cameo in the second season of the British show “We Are Lady Parts.” Her first look from the series has garnered significant attention on social media. The image features Yousafzai wearing a cowboy hat while riding a horse.
The episode, titled “Malala Made Me Do It,” features a star-studded cast including Anjana Vasan, Sarah Kameela Impey, Juliette Motamed, Lucie Shorthouse, and Faith Omole, according to The Express Tribune.
The second season of “We Are Lady Parts” follows the band members as they face challenges related to eviction and rivalry while attempting to record their debut album. In the second episode, the band’s vocalist’s daughter is suspended from school for throwing eggs at her teacher, sparking a plot that addresses the removal of slavery from the curriculum.
“I did what Malala would do. You know she fights for girls’ education every day,” Imani tells her mother in a scene reported by Mashable India. The mother’s response, “Malala would not throw eggs at Mr. Appleby, Imani!” underscores the comedic element of the storyline.
The band then creates a song titled “Malala Made Me Do It,” which highlights their struggles. During a fantasy sequence in the song, Yousafzai makes her appearance on a fake horse, donning a bejeweled, fringed cowboy hat over a dupatta, and a striking blue dress.
Her appearance has generated a considerable buzz, with Yousafzai expressing her surprise at being part of the show. “I never expected to be in a show,” she told Vogue. “I’m finally showing my hidden talent,” she added. Discussing her experience with the New York Times, she said, “When I saw the set on the day of filming, it was completely beyond my wildest imagination. And the funny thing was, I didn’t have lines, so it made things a lot easier.”
Yousafzai also praised the series for its uplifting portrayal of Muslim girls, noting that it allows viewers “to connect with them and relate to them.”
