Indian economy grows by 7.8% in March quarter, pushes annual growth

The GDP had expanded by 6.2 percent in the January-March period of the 2022-23 fiscal year.

India’s economy grew by 7.8 percent in the March quarter, raising the annual growth rate to 8.2 percent for the fiscal year 2023-24, according to official data released today by the National Statistical Office (NSO). This growth in the January-March period is slightly lower than the 8.6 percent expansion recorded in the December quarter.

The GDP had expanded by 6.2 percent in the January-March period of the 2022-23 fiscal year. The NSO’s data highlights that the economy expanded by 8.2 percent in 2023-24, compared to a 7 percent growth in 2022-23.

The NSO had previously estimated the country’s growth for 2023-24 at 7.7 percent in its second advance estimate of national accounts.

In comparison, China registered an economic growth of 5.3 percent in the first three months of 2024.
