In a significant blow to national security efforts, Rajasthan authorities have apprehended a guest house manager linked to India’s premier defence research organization, amid suspicions of sharing classified details with foreign operatives. The incident underscores vulnerabilities in sensitive military zones as the country prepares for key national events. Jaisalmer DRDO manager arrested for leaking secrets to Pakistan’s ISI.
Heightened Vigilance Leads to Key Arrest Ahead of Independence Day
Rajasthan’s CID (Security) Intelligence unit intensified monitoring of potential anti-national elements in the lead-up to Independence Day festivities.
This proactive stance uncovered suspicious activities involving Mahendra Prasad, a 32-year-old contractual employee serving as the manager of the DRDO Guest House located at the Chandan Field Firing Range in Jaisalmer.
Originally hailing from Palyun in Uttarakhand’s Almora district, Prasad came under scrutiny after intelligence inputs suggested his involvement in covert communications.
According to officials, he maintained regular contact with a handler from Pakistan’s intelligence agency via social media platforms. This connection allegedly facilitated the unauthorized transmission of critical data pertaining to defence operations.
CID (Security) IG Dr. Vishnukant stated that in view of Independence Day celebrations, Rajasthan CID Intelligence has been maintaining heightened surveillance on anti-national and subversive activities.
The probe revealed Prasad’s role in relaying information about the comings and goings of DRDO scientists and Indian Army personnel at the site, which is vital for conducting trials of missiles and advanced weaponry.
Ongoing Probe Reveals Depth of Security Compromise
Following his initial detention, Prasad faced intensive questioning by multiple security agencies. A detailed forensic examination of his mobile device corroborated the allegations, showing evidence of exchanged sensitive materials related to DRDO projects and military movements.
Charged formally with espionage, the accused now faces a comprehensive investigation to assess the full scope of the leaked information and identify any accomplices in the network.

Security officials have emphasized their dedication to protecting the nation’s interests and have called on staff in high-stakes environments to stay alert and promptly flag any unusual interactions.
As inquiries continue, the arrest serves as a reminder of the need for stringent countermeasures against espionage threats in border-adjacent regions like Rajasthan.
