Case against Jalebi Baba
Baba Billu Ram gained popularity as “Jalebi Baba” following his arrest in 2018 on charges of sexually abusing his followers. He used to operate a pushcart in Tohana where he used to sell jalebis.
Sources claim that after being introduced to occult activities by another person, Ram closed his store, purchased a home, and constructed a temple with a basement where he committed his murders. In 2017, a lady accused him of sexually abusing her at his home, leading to his initial rape charge. Nevertheless, he was granted bail in the case.
The police claimed to have learned of his offenses on July 19, 2018, when on patrol at Tohana’s Ambedkar Chowk with Inspector Pardeep Kumar and his squad. A victim reported to investigators that she was forced into having sex with “Jalebi Baba” when seeking therapy for a “opri parai” (bad spirit). Tohana was found to have both a video cassette recorder (VCR) and sedative drugs.
Following the event, 120 alleged sex film clips of “Jalebi Baba” were found and he was taken into custody by the Haryana Police. The video clips were discovered from Ram’s cell phone, as confirmed by Bimla Devi, the then-in-charge of the Fatehabad women’s police cell.
Though the accused was charged of raping five women and a kid, advocate Sanjay Verma, who represented the victims in court, stated that the judge found him guilty of raping three of the women, including the minor, based on the evidence that was available.
However, Ram’s lawyer claimed: “Prima facie this case was lodged on the basis of a CD. There was no direct application from any of the six alleged victims against the accused.”
