Bhool Chuk Maaf, the latest comedy-drama starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, opened in theatres with a lukewarm response, collecting ₹6.75 crore nett in India on its first day, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. Directed by Karan Sharma, the time loop comedy recorded an overall 19.36% Hindi occupancy on its opening Friday.
While the film managed to outpace Rajkummar Rao’s last release, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which earned ₹5.5 crore on day one, it lagged significantly behind his blockbuster hit Stree 2, which opened to a massive ₹51.8 crore last year.
Bhool Chuk Maaf tells the story of a man caught in a time loop on the eve of his wedding. Though the concept offered potential for both humor and introspection, early reviews suggest it falls short of making a lasting impression.
In its review, Hindustan Times noted, “Rajkummar needs to snap out of his small town fascination, and fast. Wamiqa is a relatively fresh face, and grasps the ‘papa ki pari’ hook well… Bhool Chuk Maaf, a time-loop comedy, ends up stuck in a loop of its own clichés.” While veteran actors Sanjay Mishra and Raghubeer Yadav were praised for their performances, the film’s music by Tanishk Baghchi was described as unremarkable.
The film’s release was preceded by controversy when Maddock Films initially announced that it would skip a theatrical release and debut on
Prime Video on May 16, citing heightened security drills following Operation Sindoor. However, this decision was legally challenged by multiplex giant PVRINOX. Eventually, a mutual agreement between PVRINOX, Maddock Films, and Amazon MGM Studios led to the film’s theatrical release on May 23.

With mixed reviews and a modest opening, it remains to be seen whether Bhool Chuk Maaf can build momentum over the weekend or fade into the background of Bollywood’s busy summer lineup.
