NITI Aayog Meeting Highlights | Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on Indian states to accelerate development and transform urban spaces into “future-ready” cities, while also building world-class tourist destinations under a bold new initiative titled “One State: One Global Destination.”
Chairing the eighth meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog, PM Modi emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and states to achieve the goal of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) by 2047, India’s 100th year of independence.
‘One State, One Global Destination’: Nationwide Tourism Push
In a major thrust to boost tourism and urban development, PM Modi urged states to select at least one location each to be developed into a global-standard tourist destination equipped with all essential infrastructure and facilities.
“States should develop at least one tourist destination at par with global standards. This will also drive the development of nearby cities and generate employment,” Modi said at the meeting.

The proposal comes in the wake of recent terror attacks in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which left 26 tourists dead. Despite the tragedy, the government remains committed to expanding India’s tourism sector, viewing it as a key driver of economic revival and employment.
Future-Ready Cities for a Developed India
Stressing the need for modern, sustainable urban planning, PM Modi said, “India is rapidly urbanising. We should work towards building future-ready cities that embrace growth, innovation, and sustainability.”
He outlined a bottom-up development approach, stating, “We should aim to make every state, city, nagar palika, and village developed. If we pursue this aggressively, we won’t have to wait till 2047 to become a developed nation.”

Reinforcing his call for cooperative federalism, Modi asserted that progress will only be possible through unity and collaboration between the Centre and states.
“If the Centre and states work as Team India, no goal is unachievable. The speed of development must increase,” he said.
This was PM Modi’s first formal interaction with state chief ministers following the recently executed Operation Sindoor and ongoing military hostilities with Pakistan. The meeting gained added significance amid heightened national security concerns.
Attendance Highlights and Absences
The NITI Aayog meeting saw attendance from key leaders such as MK Stalin (Tamil Nadu), N Chandrababu Naidu (Andhra Pradesh), and Revanth Reddy (Telangana). Other attendees included Omar Abdullah (Jammu & Kashmir) and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu (Himachal Pradesh).
However, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry’s chief ministers were notably absent, underlining persistent tensions between the central government and some southern states.
PM Modi also stressed the importance of women’s inclusion in the workforce as a cornerstone for national progress.
“We must create laws and policies that enable the respectful integration of women into every sector of our economy. Inclusion is essential to development,” he stated.
Vision 2047: A Blueprint for Viksit Bharat
As India moves toward the centenary of its independence, the government is framing Vision 2047 as a comprehensive roadmap to uplift urban infrastructure, tourism, economic opportunity, and social inclusivity.
The proposals made at the NITI Aayog meeting underscore a strategic shift toward state-led innovation, global positioning, and federal cooperation—pillars that the Modi government believes are essential for building a truly developed India.
