The family of 34-year-old Atul Subhash, a tech professional who allegedly died by suicide, has called for justice and strict action against those he accused of harassment. Subhash was found hanging at his residence in Manjunath Layout, Bengaluru, on Monday. A 24-page purported death note left behind detailed his claims of prolonged emotional distress and harassment by his wife, relatives, and a judge in Uttar Pradesh.

In response to his death, Bengaluru police registered a case of abetment of suicide against Subhash’s wife, Nikita Singhania, her parents Nisha and Anurag, and her uncle Sushil Kumar. A police team has traveled to Uttar Pradesh to investigate the allegations and question the named individuals.

“We are looking into all the allegations and investigating from all angles,” a senior police officer stated.

Emotional Distress and Allegations of Harassment

Subhash’s death note and an 80-minute video, shared online before his death, provide insight into the distress he endured. In the video, Subhash expressed frustration, saying, “The money I earn is making my enemies stronger. That same money will be used to destroy me, and this cycle will keep going.”

Family members claimed Subhash faced relentless financial demands under the guise of child maintenance for his four-year-old son. According to his uncle Pawan Kumar, the demands escalated from Rs 40,000 to Rs 1 lakh per month. Kumar alleged Subhash was humiliated during legal proceedings, where his wife reportedly suggested he should commit suicide if he couldn’t meet the payments, a comment that was allegedly met with laughter by the judge.

Family Demands Justice

Speaking to PTI, Subhash’s brother Bikas called for systemic reform to ensure justice for men. “I want my brother to get justice. This country needs a legal process through which men can also find justice. Strict action must be taken against those using corruption to manipulate the system,” he said.

Subhash’s cousin Bajrang Agarwal alleged that the victim’s wife and family had been “minting” money under the pretext of child maintenance and that the constant financial pressure broke him. “He ended his life because he was being harassed and tortured. Justice should be served so his soul can rest in peace,” Agarwal stated.

Wife’s Family Refutes Allegations

Nikita’s uncle, Sushil Kumar, denied any wrongdoing, asserting that neither he nor other family members were present at the scene. “I came to know about the FIR from the media. We haven’t communicated with him or his family in years. The court will decide the matter,” he said, adding that Nikita would soon respond to the allegations.

Subhash’s death has sparked broader discussions about corruption within the judicial system and the challenges men face in marital disputes. “We can expect justice only when decisions are based on facts. If this doesn’t change, people will lose faith in the judicial system, and men may start fearing marriage itself,” Bikas said.

Subhash married Nikita in 2019, and their son was born the following year. However, marital discord led to multiple cases filed by both parties, adding to his emotional and financial strain.

As investigations continue, Subhash’s family hopes that exposing his story will lead to accountability and reform, ensuring no one else faces a similar ordeal.
