The deadly assault unfolded in the scenic Baisaran meadow, a popular tourist spot accessible only by foot or pony. Tourists were reportedly ambushed by gunmen in military fatigues. Describing the incident as “much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years,” former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah acknowledged the gravity of the situation, adding that the final death toll is still being verified.
