PM Modi asks Amit Shah to visit the site of the attack
The Prime Minister also spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone and directed him to ensure all necessary actions are taken. He further asked the Home Minister to visit the site of the attack to assess the situation on the ground.
The terror strike occurred around 2:30 PM on Tuesday, when a group of armed militants disguised in military fatigues opened fire on tourists at the scenic Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam. The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy outfit of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack. The remote location is accessible only by foot or pony rides.
Security forces responded swiftly after hearing gunshots, launching evacuation efforts. A helicopter was deployed, and local residents also assisted by bringing down the injured on ponies, according to PTI reports.
