In a shocking incident in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, a rabid dog went on a biting spree, attacking 17 people, including children and women, within just one hour on August 14.
Among the victims was 22-year-old Ashish Yadav, a BBA student, who was viciously attacked while talking on his phone outside his house in the Awas Vikas Colony of Gorakhpur’s Shahpur area. The terrifying encounter was captured on CCTV.
The Attack
The CCTV footage shows Ashish Yadav walking in front of his house at around 9:45 pm when a stray dog suddenly rushes towards him. The dog, with bared teeth, starts attacking Ashish, who tries to fend it off by kicking, but to no avail. The dog bites Ashish on the leg, causing him to fall to the ground. The attack escalates as the dog jumps on him and bites his face, leaving him bleeding from the mouth, eyes, and lips.
The dog continued its rampage, attacking a woman who was standing at the gate of her house. The dog bit her on the knee and leg, resulting in deep wounds that required several stitches. The dog then targeted two young girls who were playing outside their home.

Ashish’s father, Vijay Yadav, rushed him to the district hospital for a rabies vaccine, only to find that the hospital had run out of the necessary shots. The victims have since reported the attacks to the municipal corporation, but no action has been taken to address the growing stray dog menace in the area.
Official Response

He mentioned that the municipal corporation regularly conducts sterilization campaigns for stray dogs and is in the process of building an Animal Birth Control Center. He also noted that awareness campaigns for pet dog vaccinations are ongoing.

The community’s concern over the stray menace and the lack of a swift response from authorities has sparked widespread alarm.
