A video capturing a near-confrontation between two dogs and two lions in Gujarat has gone viral on social media. The encounter took place late Sunday night at a cowshed in Savarkundla, located about 70 kilometers from the renowned Gir National Park, home to Asiatic lions. The incident was caught on CCTV installed at the gates of the cowshed.
In the video, the two lions can be seen approaching the cowshed when they suddenly come face-to-face with two dogs on the other side of the gate. The four animals then begin slamming against the gate in an attempt to get to each other, but an iron gate between them prevents any actual harm.

Moments later, the lions are seen retreating into the nearby bushes, just as a man emerges from the gate, seemingly trying to understand what had transpired. He shines a torch into the bushes before returning to the cowshed and locking the gate behind him.
It appears that the lions had strayed from a reserve forest area. However, there has been no official statement regarding the incident. The encounter comes just a day after Gujarat observed World Lion Day, which included various programs to raise awareness about the conservation and protection of lions.

The state forest department marked the occasion by sending out awareness messages via SMS and email to citizens, while school students in 11 districts with lion populations participated in rallies, drawing competitions, and other activities.
According to the 2020 census, Gujarat is home to 674 Asiatic lions.
