Uttar Pradesh minister Sanjay Nishad was allegedly attacked while attending a wedding at a village near Khalilabad Kotwali police Station. Vinod Kumar, the minister’s personal secretary, filed a complaint in this incident.
It occurred late Sunday night in Mohammadpur Kathar village, when Sanjay Nishad was pulled up by a group of locals who inquired about his work and his MP son’s absence from the area.
When Sanjay Nishad’s nose began to bleed from the wound, his supporters rushed him to the district hospital. At the district hospital, Praveen Nishad and three other party MLAs and supporters held a sit-in protest, calling for action against the perpetrators.
Following notification, Superintendent of Police Satyajit Gupta also showed up, noted the complaint, and assured to look into the issue. Sanjay Nishad, the cabinet minister, accused the Samajwadi Party members of being responsible for the attack.
“They became aggressive when we objected and beat me and my supporters. I have suffered injuries,” Sanjay Nishad said. Vijay Kumar Yadav, the minister’s security officer, filed a complaint with the police against six people. Raghavendra Yadav, Jaiprakash Yadav, also known as Kavi, Digvijay Yadav, PAC constable Abhishek Yadav were arrested by the police.
The BJP has fielded Praveen Nishad, son of Sanjay Nishad, as a candidate for Sant Kabir Nagar Lok Sabha seat. According to Praveen Nishad, the attack on his father revealed the opposition parties’ desperation and fear of losing the general election.
Following the incident, cabinet minister MLA Sarwan Nishad, his son Praveen Nishad, and other party members sat on a dharna.
