New Delhi: The Indian Navy successfully freed an Iranian fishing vessel, which had been hijacked by pirates and rescued its crew consisting of 23 Pakistani nationals. This operation, involving “intense coercive tactical measures,” lasted for over 12 hours as part of the Navy’s anti-piracy efforts at sea.
The Indian Navy in a post on X said that INS Sumedha intercepted FV Al-Kambar during early hours of 29 March 24 and was joined subsequently by the guided missile frigate INS Trishul.

After more than 12 hrs of intense coercive tactical measures as per the SOPs, the pirates on board the hijacked FV were forced to surrender. The crew, comprising 23 Pakistani nationals, have been safely rescued, it added.
“Indian Naval specialist teams are presently undertaking thorough sanitisation & seaworthiness checks of the FV in order to escort her to a safe area for resuming normal fishing activities, ” it said.
Indian Navy said late on Friday evening that it was engaged in an operation to free the fishing vessel from pirates.
