New Delhi: Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar on Friday said India does not need lessons from any country on the rule of law.
The comment by Jagdeep Dhankar came in the wake of recent statements by Germany and the US on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
In his address at the 70th Founders’ Day celebrations of the Indian Institute of Public Administration in New Delhi, Jagdeep Dhankhar asserted that India does not require lessons on the rule of law from any other country.
His comments come in response to statements made by foreign officials regarding Kejriwal’s arrest, highlighting concerns about the application of democratic principles and judicial independence in India.
The Vice-President’s remarks underscore India’s confidence in its legal framework and judicial institutions. He emphasized that the country’s democracy is built on the foundation of equality before the law, where accountability is paramount regardless of one’s status or position.
The assertion by Jagdeep Dhankar that corruption is no longer tolerated in India, with perpetrators facing legal consequences, reflects the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and combating corruption.
Furthermore, Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed challenges faced by India, both domestically and externally, suggesting that external interference in India’s internal affairs undermines the nation’s sovereignty.
He emphasized the need for India’s representation in global decision-making forums such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), citing the country’s unique position as the world’s largest democracy.
The Vice-President’s remarks also highlight India’s proactive approach to addressing challenges and promoting its interests on the global stage. By advocating for India’s inclusion in international organizations like the UNSC, Dhankhar reaffirmed the country’s commitment to playing a significant role in shaping global governance and decision-making processes.
