The BJP’s veteran MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will not be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, and instead, his son Karan Bhushan Singh has been named as the BJP candidate from Uttar Pradesh’s Kaiserganj constituency.
This announcement settles the speculation surrounding the Kaiserganj seat, which was previously held by Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Alongside naming Karan Bhushan Singh, the BJP also announced Pratap Singh as its candidate from Rae Bareli, a stronghold previously represented by Sonia Gandhi of the Congress. The Congress is yet to announce its candidate for this prestigious seat along with Amethi.
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, a six-term MP, faced significant political challenges due to allegations of sexual harassment against him, which led to protests by top wrestlers in the country.
In response to these developments, the BJP sought a replacement candidate to preserve its electoral prospects in the crucial state of Uttar Pradesh, acknowledging Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s local political influence. Consequently, his son Karan Bhushan Singh has been chosen as his successor.
Despite the allegations, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has denied the accusations, and the legal case is ongoing in a Delhi court. The election for Kaiserganj is scheduled for May 20 during the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha polls, with the nomination deadline set for tomorrow.
